Statement of Faith

SOOOOO... I just had to write a statement of faith for a job position that I am applying for at a local Christian college. I figured since I spent so long writing it I would share it here as well!!

I was raised in a Christian home although we were in and out of church until I was 14 years old. My parents shared the Gospel with me daily while I was little and I remember knowing the stories at a young age.  Although, I never accepted Christ until the summer between 6th and 7th grade.

This was during a time that there were a few things going on in our family that kept us busy and not able to attend church.  During July of that summer a local church was having Vacation Bible School and friends of my parents invited us to attend.  My brothers and I were excited to attend and have something to do.  During the week I felt God working on my heart. The Bible was just stories until then, then it became something real.  At the end of the week my teacher asked the question “Would anyone like to have a relationship with Christ that doesn’t already?” Without even thinking twice I raised my hand and professed that I wanted and needed that relationship with Him.  She then led me through the sinner’s prayer and I became a follower of Christ!

I believe the Holy Bible. The Bible teaches us about the trinity, three in one, God the Father, Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit.  Jesus Christ is the son of God. God sent Him, His only son, to die on the cross for our sins.  Jesus walked on earth as fully God and fully human and lived a sinful life.  Humans are sinners and that separates us from God.  Christ came to earth to give us a way to God so that we would not have to stay separated from Him for eternity.  While on earth Christ performed miracles. He was also tempted like we are and suffered just as we do.   Christ then died for us.  Then three days later He rose from the grave.  Before he ascended back to He told us that he would be coming back.  When he went back to Heaven He did not leave us alone. He left us with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives in those who chose to believe in Christ.  Romans 10:9 tells us “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

I became a Christian at a fairly young age I did not have a huge “noticeable” life change, but I was a sinner. I needed Christ then just as I’ve needed him every day since. I believe that Christ is with me every second of everyday. There is nothing in my life that I can not battle with Him by my side. I have faith that He has everything in control and no matter what I am His.  Anything I go through I know that He understands because He has also gone through it. Philippians 4:13 states “For I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”   Being a Christian does not mean that we are free of hardship. It means to me that we do not have to go through anything alone.
